Unfortunately, sometimes the “withholding” partner wants the relationship to end, but is too cowardly to just say so. Then the deprived partner fights alone for the relationship, only to discover years later that it was wasted effort. Finally, acceptance of the inevitable from the deprived partner, whose confidence and self-respect return after a long absence and much contemplation. Grieving is now over. Now, looking forward to a future alone (not lonely) that can’t come fast enough. . .after 26 years. Been there, doing that. . .thanks for helping identify what was happening.
